Esther Dyson on the Coming Ad Revolution

[BloGate link] Autor: Pito Salas Blog profile: Pito's Blog Category: technology

Esther Dyson wrote this very interesting Wall Street Journal article about how online advertising is changing. This article is very relevant to my new product, SWIFT, which I have hinted about before. She says: “The current online-advertising model will become less effective, even as it gets increasingly sophisticated. New players are emerging to devalue the spaces

The Poll Is Closed, Thanks For Voting!

[BloGate link] Autor: Johnny Karp Blog profile: Best Freeware Category: technology

I started the poll two weeks ago because I wanted to know your view about sponsored posts. I was hoping for at least 100 votes, you gave me 147! Thanks, it means a lot to me. That's quite similar to the traffic situation in September. I was hoping for 250 to 500 visits per day and you gave me... 5000! Now about the poll results... 79 people (53%) say that I should continue to write sponsored posts, 23 people (15%) don't want sponsored posts in this blog and 45 people (30%) left the decision to me. Now let's be honest. Sponsored posts won't make me rich, that's for sure. Most posts pay 10 bucks or so, and I guess I won't be writing more than one per week, maybe even less. But that money can be useful to me sometimes. For instance, what I earned so far from sponsored posts went into paying for the domain (about 30 dollars for three years). I donated the rest of it ( about 20 dollars) to a nice website that promotes good movies :) I will continue to write sponsored posts but I will, as I did until now, carefully choose the sponsors and the topics. I will not promote products or website that do not deserve that. Thank you again for voting, maybe I will start a new poll soon, it's very important to me to know how you feel about the blog. CrystalDiskMark 2.2

[BloGate link] Autor: Johnny Karp Blog profile: Best Freeware Category: technology

Overview CrystalDiskMark is a free hard disk benchmarking tool that allows you to test the performance of your disks. Review  I downloaded CrystalDiskMark 2.2 because I was using another software from the same author, CrystalDiskInfo, and I was and still am quite happy with it. The main reason for using CrystalDiskMark is that I wanted to find out which is the fastest from the four hard disks that I have in my system. The program is quite simple, just select the hard disk and run the tests. There are three types of tests: sequential read/write, random read/write with 512 kb files and random read/write with 4 kb files. Testing a hard disk will only take a few minutes. I found out which is the fastest hard disk in my system, so I'll use that one for the Windows XP "virtual memory". Version Tested  2.2 Author http://crystalmark.info/ Operating System  Windows All Download link Summary  You can use it to test USB sticks and external hard disk drives too.  Easy to use, very easy to use.  -   You can't export the test results. You have to copy and then paste into a document. Rating   Verdict   I'm keeping it, along with CrystalDiskInfo. These two provide all the info that I need about my hard disks. Not enough? Big Numbers

[BloGate link] Autor: Pito Salas Blog profile: Pito's Blog Category: technology

Like everyone else, I’ve been following the drama on Wall Street, Main Street, Washington DC and so on. Bless their hearts, they have posted a document called “firstdraft.pdf” to allow the masses to examine the bill which will authorize the bailout (a bit of irony?) It’s way over my head, but a quick scan does reveal some

Mmm Free 2.02

[BloGate link] Autor: Johnny Karp Blog profile: Best Freeware Category: technology

Overview Mmm Free is a freeware program that allows you to customize your Windows context menus, hiding items or moving them to the "rarely used" menu. Review  Many programs install context menu entries, and most times you don't really need those entries in the context menu. Sometimes after right clicking on a file you get a context menu that is kilometers long, and that does you no good, it slows down the system and makes the items you really need hard to find.  That's where Mmm Free can help you. It adds a bar on the left side of your context menus, and if you click that bar a window pops up. There you can move the items to the "hidden" folder or to the "rarely used" folder. It's very simple and quite effective. Version Tested  2.02 Author http://hace-software.com/ Operating System  Windows XP Download link Summary  Very easy to use.  Tiny, only 860 KB. I found no real weaknesses, maybe you can help me with that :) Rating   Verdict   This is one to keep, a must have for any Windows XP user. Not enough? Check out the related posts ! Audio Limiter/Compressor for Electret Desk Microphones

[BloGate link] Autor: Go2media Blog profile: Andani Setiadi Category: technology

This electronic circuit is audio limiter compressor specifically designed to use with very low-cost electret desk microphones. 1 IC& 2 transistors.Overcomes the heavy attack/decay problems with diode rectifier VOGAD circuits. A TL074 IC was used with a dual supply of +/-5v Note the lack of rectifier diodes in the feedback loop, instead the circuit uses high gain BC848(smd BC108) This uses the full wave rectifier effect to give a non-linear compression level avoiding the worst of the 'pumping' normally noticed with discrete diodes. R38 sets the compression level/bias point to suit the hfe of the selected transistor. Note Q2 is a P channel Junction FET eg J176. Source: http://www.g8ajn.tv/projects.htm

Here's PLL FM transmitter circuit from china. This circuit uses the familiar 2SC1971 for final power amplifier stage. Click image below  for enlarge  the circuit schematic. The PLL controller of the FM transmitter use SAA1057 and PIC16F628 (download HEX file). If want to change the active component, here's the list: 2SC2458 = BC547 2SA1048 = BC557 2SK192 = J310 2SB562 = BD136, BD138, BD140 2SC1923 = BF199 of BRF91 2SC1923 = BF199 or BRF91 2SC2053 = BRF96 2SB1135 = BD136, BD138, BD140 MV2105-09 = BB105, BB119      Printed Circuit Board (PCB) for this FM transmitter circuit is 155 mm x 120 mm. All coils are 0.8 mm copper wire with a 6 mm diameter. Please see parts used from schematic.
