I always try to keep everything in my computer up to date: drivers and software. I recently reviewed a driver updating freeware, now it's time for a program that keeps your software up to date. This freeware is called SUMo (Software Update Monitor) and they say it can track your software updates easily. Let's see how it works. The setup package is only 1.1 MB, so you're in for a quick download. The installation process took me less than a minute to complete. After you launch the program you'll see a wizard screen where you can choose to let the program automatically scan your computer to find installed software. The scan process doesn't take very long. From what I've noticed the program scans everything under a "Program Files" folder and the Windows "System 32" folder. I think it also scans the registry, but I might be wrong about that. After a couple of minutes the program showed me a list of the installed software in my computer. If the list isn't complete you can manually add more programs by pointing the application to the executable file of the respective software. You can pick which programs you want to be checked for updates and wait until SUMo finds the new stuff. It found updates for various programs in my computer. Let's check out the Winamp update. If you click "Get Update" the internet browser window pops up, loading a page which points you to where the wanted update is.Just one click and I'm on Winamp's download page, and another click and the update is on the road to my computer.Overall I think this freeware is a good one to have, because the various software in your computer won't update if you don't use them very frequently. And when you need to use them maybe you're not in the mood for downloading and installing an update. I plan to use SUMo once every month maybe to keep my software up to date. You can download it from here, it's free!Want another software from the same category? Hello, folks! I recently discovered PayPerPost, an opportunity for me as a blogger to earn some cash while writing about stuff that I find interesting. You all know that I'm not writing about stuff that I don't test honestly, so that's what I intend to do with the PayPerPost membership too. I found PayPerPost accidentaly, while browsing through some of the blogs that I read. I don't remember the exact blog, but I remember that the website that was reviewed in the sponsored post that I read was really great. What I liked about PayPerPost is that they have a strict ethical code: you have tell your readers that a post is sponsored and if the advertiser requires you not to do that, he'll be in trouble. I really like that.I intend to write only about stuff that I think would be useful for you, and get some money in the process. I don't believe I'll get rich with PayPerPost, but maybe I could get enough to pay for hosting and a domain for this blog. I really don't have a plan, like to post one sponsored article every day or stuff like that. I won't turn this blog into a "money machine". I think I'll just grab some opportunity from time to time. Until then, have a good time with the freeware that I'll be reviewing from now on.If you want more info about it you can check out the blog ads on the marketplace. When you'll see this blue badge you'll know that the post is sponsored ;)Check the site for the latest articles: Best Freeware Blog
I was trying today to test another freeware program for you. It's called UndeleteMyFiles, a data recovery tool. Well, the test went as bad as it could go! I tried to launch the program three times, and each time the result was my computer suddenly restarting! This is weird, I've never seen such behavior from my computer when launching a program! Definitely I won't give it another try!Want another software from the same category? Mission
To write a custom Python program which can act as a plugin for Squid to redirect a given URL to another URL. This is useful when already existing redirector plugins for Squid doesn't suit your needs or you want everything of your own.
Use Cases
When you want to redirect URLs using a database like mysql or postgresql.
When you want to redirect based on mappings stored in simple text files.
When you want to build a redirector which can learn by itself using AI techniques :P

Make it your job to study, follow, and abide by security recommendations. Don’t use user-supplied names for uploaded files.Watch how database references are used. For example, if a person’s user ID is their primary key from the database and this is stored in a cookie, a malicious user just needs to change that cookie value...

Mission
To cache Youtube videos using Squid proxy server so that subsequent requests for the same video can be served from the cache saving the loading time and some bandwidth.
Use Cases
To reduce the loading time for the subsequent requests on a shared network.
To save some bandwidth which is wasted in serving the same video again and again.
When the clients on your proxy are in thousands and they love browsing youtube all the time (universities are typical examples ), the 2nd factor becomes an issue.
When you don't want to hack the refresh_pattern in squid and don't want to disturb the dynamic content.

As part of PHP’s support for sessions, there are over 20 different configuration options you can set for how PHP handles sessions. Here I’ll highlight a few of the most important ones here. Note two rules about changing the session settings:
1. All changes must be made before calling session_start().
2. The same changes must be made on every page that uses sessions.

A brute force attack is an attempt to log into a secure system by making lots of attempts in the hopes of eventual success. It’s not a sophisticated type of attack, hence the name "brute force." For example, if you have a login process that requires a username and password, there is a limit as to the possible number of username/password combinations. That limit may be in the billions or...

High gain MOSFET transistors and systematic use of state-of-the-art manufacturing methods, have helped us to find effective solutions for the design of this new equipment. The amplifier, of simple and rugged construction, is able to satisfy the requests of all those end-users looking for top-quality equipment at reasonable prices. The RF power input is divided by 4 by means of a power splitter and is then connected to 4 x BLF278 MOSFETs.The power amplifier is lightweight with broad-band characteristics over the entire VHF FM range. The compact design and the internal configuration of the modules, allow excellent access to all components. All the power components are generously over-rated to ensure excellent reliability. The cooling system of the equipment makes possible to keep all components which dissipate heat, at low temperature figures, thus permitting reliability and very high MTBF.1 KW Power Amplifier Module The input power of the module is connected to a Wilkinson splitter, and is then sent to the input of two 3dB couplers. In case of failure of one of the MOSFETs, the unbalanced power is connected to four resistors. The amplifier circuit is composed of four BLF278 MOSFETs which permit a very high redundancy thanks to four- level modularity. The MOSFETs are provided with a bias circuit that assures the optimal impedance matching. The temperature, the Voltage and the RF Power figures are controlled by the microprocessor board.Download Service and Operating ManualFilter And Directional Coupler This module is composed of the Low Pass Filter and of the Directional Coupler. The filter is constant matching type and includes two ( network sections, with second harmonic-traps devices. The directional coupler has been realized with microstrip technology.
The latest operating systems require more and more RAM (Random Access Memory). Although the prices for the memory modules have decreased significantly over the past few years they are a "must spend some cash" stuff for any computer user. This freeware, MemTest offers you the possibility to check how your memory modules behave under stress. Let's see how it works. After you download a .zip archive worth only a few KBs you have to extract the content. And that content is an executable file and a manual (you should read it before using the program).I've got four memory modules in my computer, meaning two pairs of dual channel sets worth 1.5 GB of memory. Let's test them.I've left the program running for twenty minutes, in which it covered 31% of the unused RAM and found no errors. That's good news, no need to go to the computer shop to buy RAM again.Well, if MemTest finds errors while testing your memory modules, don't panic. You'll just have to replace the DIMM and your computer should be fine. However, please read the manual for more details.Overall, I think this is a freeware program that you must have in your computer. I just came across Dave Dupre’s blog. Some good reading there, for example:

My own four hard disks are always writing a lot of information, especially when I do video editing. Defragmenting the hard disks is a must! Windows XP has a Disk Defragmenter, but I always found it to be too slow. I stumbled upon a free defragmenter called AusLogics Disk Defrag, let's see if it's any better. The download and installation will go very fast: the setup package is only 1.3 MB and the installation process takes less than a minute to complete. After that you can launch the program and choose the partition you want to defragment. I chose the system partition, C:, 10 GB in size. The defragmenting process started, and the program said "it may take a while..." I was a little bit disappointed because it lacks any indication of the remaining time to completion. But then... it took only two minutes to complete! Two minutes! Way faster than the Windows XP Disk Defragmenter. Way to go!The report said that the remaining fragmentation on the partition was 5%. Let's double check that with the Windows Disk Management.Checked! This is a very good piece of freeware indeed! Now excuse me, I have to go on defragmenting my other partitions :)You can download the program from here, it's free!Want another software from the same category?
